"HaOlam Hazeh" was a weekly news magazine published in Israel until 1993. The magazine was published in its unconventional and irreverent style. Its news focused on investigative reporting, often presented in a sensationalist manner, which aroused anger from the Israeli establishment and contempt from the mainstream press in Israel.
Government ministers regularly called for its closure, especially when it exposed (or claimed to have exposed) some government scandals. Sometimes, major publications leaked stories that they felt unable to publish themselves to HaOlam Hazeh.
In 1959, HaOlam Hazeh began to be published in a two-cover format – a front cover, which mainly included political sensationalism, and a back cover, which was devoted to sex stories (mainly among religious people or soldiers), and gossip stories of a semi-pornographic nature. The stories were accompanied by bold headlines such as: "The shocking confession of a 15-year-old religious high school student: 'This is how I was driven into prostitution,'" accompanied by a photograph of a half-naked girl with a black rectangle covering her eyes.
