Face Masks now and then

► In 1918, influenza, the so-called Spanish Flu, or 91918H1N1, to give its proper name, claimed the lives of more than 50 million people in just 15 months. Masks were part of the drive to beat it. Flashbak (via Things Magazine)

Masks have become a ubiquitous symbol of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Mask Exhibition project, The Vicki Myhren Gallery hope to call attention to the significance and signification of masking as an issue of public health and a demonstration of civic responsibility. (via Kottke)

Covid-19's known unknowns

"The more certain someone is about covid-19, the less you should trust them. Acknowledging uncertainty a little more might improve not only the atmosphere of the debate and the science, but also public trust. If we publicly bet the reputational ranch on one answer, how open minded can we be when the evidence changes?" Source: bmj.
